SUMMARY NOTES: Lurkers (& ironically late)

Hi Everyone

Sorry for the belated posting of this summary.  Life threw me a nasty curve ball on Friday and I am still picking myself up off the floor metaphorically speaking!  Ironically it is interesting timing giving the subject of this particular discussion board!

Given I was in Day 3 of 4 of this workshop (9 hours a day....can you fathom that?) I snuck out at lunch and did the summary with a bit of a twist - on my ipod!

This is a method I do actually use to summarise the week with my online students, frequently while I am in transit up the freeway to work on a Friday morning with a lapel mic! The students find it useful debrief, with my spin on things, and it creates another opportunity to "connect".

I was hoping to do this model of summary in week 3 given the Voiceboards were week 2, but sometimes you have to be flexible and think on the fly!

Cheers Sue

I forgot I had this on my computer.

For some reason I thought it would be funny to podcast my first time walking Jacobs ladder in Kings Park Tongue out [I must be insane..........seriously!]

What I actually got was me coming down with heatstroke that put me in bed for the best part of a week and in hindsight I should have been in hospital.  This was the first lot of heatstroke from last summer - I got it 3 times Yell

This is for the BES100 Students doing the task on learning to reference on the discussion boards.

Two interviews with current ECU students. Mark, an MBA student (also a self-professed Business Edge guinea pig - one of the first graduates from the program) and Shana (our Business Edge pin up girl for the ECU "Reach Your Potential" campaign) about to be the Student Speaker at the upcoming graduation.

They discuss their experiences in referencing, from the early first years to how it has become easier. They both also supply a few things to watch out for that the lecturers are particularly vigilant on!

I gave a one hour PD session to our School of Nursing, Midwifery and Post-Graduate Medicine this week. It was based on using Web 2.0 to extend professional networks and professional practice (thanks to the lovely @SarahStewart for cohosting with me).

I did a bit of a screencast for those people that have been asking me about it, showing some of the key features, how it works and using my presentation from Tuesday as a bit of an example.

This third topic is on use of MMORPG's such as Everquest 2 as a roleplay for experiential learning. Looks at how the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, Everquest 2 is a fantastic sandpit for developing a suite of skills such as leadership, conflict management, communication and so forth. You can visit my blog for viewing of a post written on this topic.

The second of 4 podcasts recorded at a dinner in Melbourne at the 2007 mLearn conference. A wide ranging discussion that has been edited into 4 topical sections. This second topic is on the trials and tribulations of learning to use Second Life. Covers such thing as getting yourself a decent body and set of hair, clothes, no undo function. You still seem to exhibit similar human responses to getting naked!

Not nice to receive an email saying podomatic has pretty much had a "catastrophic" hardware failure, losing 10% of all podcasts, including yours.
Mostly seem to be back now, but have lost all comments and work on blog. Still piecing it back together. NOT HAPPY.

This vodcast (for your ipod) shows you how to create a simple web page using Google Pages. You must have a Google account to be able to do this (see the top right hand side of your Google page). I found it a great way to put my most frequently used sites in one location as traditional methodologies just were not working for me.

You can visit my blog http://profdevelopment.edublogs.org to also see a step by step account of this.

I have recently returned from a dive trip and took the opportunity to interview 2 people who do not appear to have a Facebook addiction. This first interview is from Jaye, who's limited use of Facebook has resulted in a large spike of spam to her email that is non-facebook related. Apologies for the background conversations - as you can imagine, privacy and quiet on a boat is hard to find!

i REALLY REALLY do hate iTunes sad This podcast looks at my use of another media centre (J River Media Centre) that controls my multimedia and draws some comparisons between J River and iTunes. Apologies as I unfortunately referred to Apple as Microsoft in the middle of a rant - I am blaming the cold! I pay an annual subscription of about $40 I think to J River, and I get 10 downloads annually for this.

This is my first go at using Camtasia for a production and I didn't even read the instructions!

This little grab is my first podcast (I have a cold so sorry for the narration!). I have been going insane trying to find video podcasts that I have subscribed to and downloaded onto my ipod. Much screaming, cursing, teeth gnashing and hair pulling has lead to me making this short ipod assist once I figured it out. Surely it can't just be me that's the gumby............?

Welcome!
